Our History
More Than a Conference — A Fellowship of Faith
Faith. Fellowship. Leadership.
The year was 1974.
At the time, SIOR was known as SIR, with national offices in Washington, D.C., under the leadership of President Howard “Blackie” Krafsur of Chicago.
Through a single introduction, two members — previously strangers, yet united by a shared faith in Jesus Christ — connected by phone. That one conversation sparked an idea that would grow far beyond what anyone could have imagined.
On April 27, 1974, during the annual convention in Kansas City, twelve individuals gathered for the very first SIR Prayer Breakfast.
What followed was remarkable.
Fueled by faith, fellowship, and a desire to integrate spiritual purpose into both life and business, the gathering began to grow. By 1977, attendance had expanded from twelve people to more than 200.
In the early years, speakers were often SIR members sharing how their faith had shaped both their personal and professional lives. Over time, the platform expanded to include influential voices from business, sports, ministry, and public service.
In 1986, following the organization’s transition to the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, the gathering became known as the SIOR Prayer Breakfast.
Today, more than five decades later, the Inspirational Breakfast continues to bring together professionals, guests, and leaders from across the
industry to connect, reflect, and be encouraged in their faith.
We are grateful for the legacy that has been built.
And we believe the most meaningful chapters are still ahead.
Because sometimes one conversation — one moment — can change everything.
